INSTALLATION
UNITY - Waste Paper Installation 2020 - ongoing
Unity is an ongoing project focused on a subject of racial injustice. This continuously growing installation strictly remains in black and white. Carefully selected tones and textures represent human populations within white and BIPOC cultures, their ongoing challenges, constant miscommunication, and lack of diversity.
As an immigrant artist with a cross-culture descent it only comes naturally to integrate, collaborate, and unite. The idea of working together, creating new opportunities and partnerships for all, no matter the ethnicity, religion, gender identity, genetic, marital, disability or social status is the main focus of this ever growing Waste Paper Installation.
By working with leftover scrap pieces of paper collected around various printshops, by reusing old prints or printing additional patterns on top of no longer useful proofs, I initiate the first step to unite no matter the background, religion, social or gender status. Working with traditional stencil methods and repetitive patterns through linework, contrast and value, I am interested in creating a 3-dimensional installation that brings us together as ONE. I play with tones of greyscale value from delicate shades of grey to the rich blacks throughout the installation to emphasize the need for justice, inclusion and unity, preserving diverse identities while integrating, and learning how to co-exist with other ethnic groups.
